I woke up this morning and wondered what was different about today..and then I remembered, it is car free day today!! No wonder it is so quiet!!! You don’t hear the usual buzzing sound of the busy roads…so peaceful. We are all so used to this sound that we don’t really hear them any longer, so when it’s car free day like today, you suddenly realise the difference.
Car free day is organized in conjunction with the Mobility Week. This takes place in Brussels and all over Europe. This is actually to teach everyone alternative way to commuting..eg: train, bicycle, busses, skates…so on.
Flea markets are also organised in conjunction of the car free day to encourage people to go out by other means..no cars! Public transport runs today for free today. And there happen to be a small flea market where I live so walking will suffice for.
It was very nice to walk on the street without the fear of being squashed by a car..honestly, drivers in Brussels can be quite aggressive! I somehow tend to believe most people in Brussels thinks they are prior! Regardless! Whether pedestrian, cars coming from the right, bicycles..it didn’t matter..they each think they are prior and they zoom in and out without looking. Sometimes I fear for the pedestrians at the zebra crossings..they just cross! They don’t look..at all…because they are prior! Yes pedestrians are prior at the crossings but there is no harm to just take a moment to look..sorry I’m babbling again LOL…anyway, it was also very nice to see children out and about on skates, bikes, scooters etc. Today we hear the laughters of children instead of the usual busy road sound. 
The round about at Place Georges Brugmann converted into a chill out area for people to enjoy light food and beverages.
See how peaceful this looked? If only the car free day could be done more than once a year 
. Well done everyone for obeying the rule for a car free day today..and for those who drove today..I hope it was for a good reason!
